Finnabair - 2014 Warm & Cosy Challenge

Hi Snickerdoodle Friends... Oh Gooshness, it has been so long since I've been here. Life is full of it's own challenges - this past year has certainly presented some not so interesting challenges, which basically put my entire creative life on hold. It's been over 12 months since I've either designed or created... oh boy have I MISSED creating. This challenge is just what I've needed!! It has kickstarted some mixed media creations and even designing some new quilting/stitching projects. 

While making some changes... I came across Finnabair's - WARM & COSY CHALLENGE. I love this ladies work, and her creative team - well they know how to rock creativity too... Finnabair is the bomb in creativity and she certainly presented a challenge with this. I hope when she's next in Australia, I get the chance to take a class with her.  Back to the challenge... let's just say - were I live in Sydney, Australia... even our winters have plenty  of sunshine - chilly/cold but pretty mild days. 

Colour and words inspire my creativity as a designer... so with no photo's of anything remotely warm and cozy, I hit Pinterest. Here is my inspiration board...

Colour Play - Clotted Creams. Chocolate Browns and Dusty Grey Blue

Words - they speak for themselves, my favourite things outside of designing and creating...

and of course... mixing everything together with fabric, paper and mixed media supplies. For the first time, I got to use Finnabair's Art Ingredients... Soft Matte Gel and Light Paste. Heavenly products to work with and so versatile. 

What did I eventually create??

I started writing instructions and even wanting to create a video but time ran away from me and honestly, it's been forever since I've done a video that I got a little scared... so next time I'll pull my creative girl pants up and create a video.  For now, I hope you all enjoy what I've created... it's dimensional, uses my favourite colours that always inspire warm, cozy thoughts and it represents my love of quilting, mixed media and reading and being snuggled up warm at the same time when the weather gets chilly... what more does a girl need?

It's that time of year again....something that is a must event on the calendar list...something that I must attend.... a girl's got to have a day of utter indulgence and immenrse herself in all things quilty & crafty. 1. Diecut (we have used a Tim Holtz Bird Cage, any shape is fine to use that fits the chipboard dimensions. For other shapes - simply adjust the chipboard size)
2. (2) chipboards pieces: (1) 5"(h) x 4½" (w) and (1) 5½" (h) x 3½" (w)
3. (2) Fabric pieces ½" larger than your chipboard
4. Scissors or a Rotary Cutter
5. Embossing Stylus Tool or similar
6. Glue Spreading Tool (optional only)

Artsy Tiles for Reece's Rainbow Charity Drive

Hi Snickerdoodle Friends...

what a creative few days I've had with scraps and paper.... this time not with fabric - that's for another day... This was for a very special project hosted by Marion Smith of A Piece of Craft

Marion asked us do create 4" x 4" tiles (not the cermaic kind... hehe) and create art... send them to her and she will be putting collages of all the tiles sent in up for auction... with all proceeds going to Reece's Rainbow - Special Needs Orphan Charity.

Here are my 4x4 artsy tiles. Scrapbooking is very new to me but I had such a wonderful couple of days playing with these tiles, using up scraps, I didn't by a thing (amazing!!!) > There was lots of re-arranging and moving pieces around until I was happy with each. The first tile took me 4 hrs.... would you believe the next 3 only 2 hrs... I was more confident by then... LOL!!

ENJOY! the preview & I hope you're inspired to create some artsy tiles for these wonderful children who make dreams come true...

All you need is a little time, paper scraps, embellishments... please make some tiles for this cause... its a RAK that will make you happy, happy, happy. More info can be found by viewing the video below:

S/Dreams: Paper Bag Swap 2011

Just a quick overview of what the swap is....


PAPER BAG SWAP::
The following items must be included in your paper bag:

2 fat quarters - 1x background & 1 x Co-ordinating Fabric
1 skein of DMC embroidery thread - to match

Then GET CREATIVE by adding extra bits 'n' pieces to your paper bag.

Items such as: buttons, lace, charms, ribbon, ric rac, bells, beads, flowers, scrapbook papers/embellishments etc. It's up to you what extra's you add to your paper bag for your partner to create with.

1. The bolded items (above) must be used in some way in the project you make for your partner...
2. Left over bits 'n' pieces from your paper bag will be added to your partners stash!
3. You may be assigned a partner who may be a scrapbooker or a quilter/stitcher (or both)... don't be scared...
4. The AIM..... is to handcraft something that you love creating for your partner and vise versa... in return you'll have a new handcrafted goodie that you may not be able to do yourself....

The paper bag and it's yummy contents are then sent to your swap partner. It is their task to make a hand crafted project using the items inside the paper bag. At the same time you will receive a paper bag of items from your swap partner, and you have to also make a hand craft project.

1. You are allowed to add extra fabric or bits from your own stash to complete your project, but you must use the items that were sent to you in some way.
2. Once your handmade item is finished, it is then sent back to your swap partner.
3. International Friends are more than welcome to participate....

My favourite day out would be spent with our three grandchildren and taking them to a theme park suitable for ages 18months to 10 years where they would all have a great time and I would have a great time just watching them. I love spending time with my grandchildren. Then in the evening after a day out I would relax by either quilting or stitching and having a really great time by myself with my DH upstairs doing what he loves best which is watching TV. So everyone would be happy including me.

Thank youto everyone for sharing all of the wonderful way to spend a perfect day. They have been such a delight to read.

Full of Sugar & Calories...yummy

There are just days when you need a sugar hit! Some yummy goodness while stitching/crafting the day away. LOL!!! well despite the fact that this slice is full of sugar & fat molecules...don't let that stop you from trying this absolutely yummy slice...

Ok here's the ingredients list:

1 pkt of Marie biscuits (plain biscuits)
1 x 250g Cadbury Caramello Chocolate (or whatever flavour - peppermint's great)
125g butter
1/2 can of sweetened condensed milk (approximately 200g)

What to do:

1. Crush the whole pkt of biscuits finely
2. Melt butter & chocolate together over low heat
3. Pour the sweetened condensed milk & melted chocolate mixture on the crushed biscuits
4. Mix well
5. Line a slice tray with baking paper
6. Put mixture into tray and even out
7. Place in fridge until slice has hardened
8. serve

Watch out!!! this is oh so yummy and you won't be able to stop at one...hehe.

Happy New Year to all our Friends...

WOW!! a New Year has begun! Sydney rocked the New Year in with style, pizzazz, partying and plenty of spectacular fireworks. I believe nobody does New Years as good as Sydney... but I'm biased... hehe

What's on our drawing board for today... a relaxing day. A spot of reading and I have just started fossicking through my fabrics, bits and pieces, pulled out my sketch book and am working on a sweet new design... I love this part of designing!! It always makes me happy.

There's loads of New Year inspiration and mojo floating around... I hope some of it wings it's way into your day. I hope your New Year - no matter where you are in the world, starts out filled with creativity & inspiration.
